Bloom was my second final year project at university. I wanted to tackle the issue of isolation of elderly generations, in families, as things returned to normal after COVID-19. My research showed that there is still a huge amount of fear in these older generations that might mean they miss out on family outings and occasions.
This prolonged separation from grandchildren drives the already increasing generational divide, therefore I designed a subscription service that offered a great excuse for Grandparent and Grandchildren to meet up and learn together.
The brand is called Bloom, hinting towards the blossoming of family relationships and it is a recipe pack delivery service that has steps allocated to both of the generations, that requires they work together as team to create wonderful meals for the family.
The designs for the boxes include the contents of the box illustrated in a rustic print-like style. The concept behind this design choice is for the ingredients to be taken in and understood by the younger generation cooking, see each ingredient as a character in which they follow on its journey. My research showed this would engage with the child better and create more of a lasting memory and skill.
The box is a sensory experience from start to finish, with each instruction depicted clearly and accompanied with an illustration, so that it was easier for both generations to understand.
The highlight of this project was designing the rustic illustrations, I found I had a real passion for working with creating food-like textures through different mediums, which I scanned in to edit. Telling the story of the process through the food elements, in the animation, was a really enjoyable process. When storyboarding the short animation I wanted there to be passion, excitement and energy around the concept of cooking together, an advert that would appeal to both generations.
